bio
Emerging from the rich cultural landscape of their Wabanaki homeland, New Brunswick, The Hello Crows are a powerful Indigenous collective, whose songs and stories are woven with the threads of personal experiences, resilience, and a deep connection to their communities and culture. Their journey began in 2022, when its members (Judie Acquin, Quinn Bonnell, Mattie Comeau and Dylan Ward), each an individual artist in their own right, performed together for the first time at a Wabanaki Songwriter Circle. This chance gathering, highlighting their poignant storytelling, while combining traditional and contemporary influences, is considered the catalyst for their creative union.
In 2024, they released their debut single, Come Back To Me, an anthem for language reclamation on July 1st (Canada Day) and it quickly resonated with listeners for its authenticity and powerful message. After a steady climb, Come Back To Me eventually landed in the top 10 on the National Indigenous Chart.
The Hello Crows continued to build strong momentum with an impressive run of shows and opportunities that presented themselves, including breakout performances at Stanfest, and Area 506, showcasing at Contact East, and a beautiful collaborative performance with The Olympic Symphonium at the Fredericton Playhouse for National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
During the fall of 2024, and all through the winter months that followed, The Hello Crows hunkered down at Ward’s Shiftwork Recording in Fredericton to record their debut album. Their self-titled, debut album will be released on September 30th, 2025, the same evening they will be at The Playhouse in Fredericton, for their 2nd Truth & Reconciliation performance in the provincial capital. That show is part of a mini, album release tour that includes performances in Saint John and Dieppe, before heading off to Ottawa to showcase at Folk Ontario in October. The Hello Crows’ album is the first release scheduled for Castle Records, the Maritime’s first Indigenous record label, which is run by Tristan Grant, known to many as hip-hop artist Wolf Castle.
The album’s buoyant first single, Warbler, dropped in May. With it’s shimmering pop hooks, and unforgettable chorus, it became the logical choice to introduce the project. It was followed by the powerful anthem Red Flag, which came out mid-summer and the beautiful third single Let ‘Em Come Home will drop just ahead of the album.
With every note, lyric, and chant, The Hello Crows remind us of the strength of Indigenous identity, the importance of collective storytelling, and the unbreakable bond between music and culture. Combine their powerful individual voices and their own unique perspectives, and The Hello Crows are poised to become a very important voice on the Canadian musical landscape, and beyond.
